- Riding Gear Hire £4.00 / £8.00 per item
Optional gear hire is available, including helmets, jackets, pants, and boots at £8.00 per item, plus gloves at £4.00, helping ensure safe and comfortable riding.

Riding & Tour Experience
Do I need previous motorcycle experience?
Yes. All riders must hold a valid motorcycle licence and be confident riding on public roads. Some tours, such as The Passes Ride, are best suited to experienced riders due to the technical nature of the terrain.
Are the routes suitable for beginners?
Yes, the Solway Coast & North Lakes and South Lakes tours are suitable for riders with moderate experience.
The Passes Ride is best suited to confident, experienced riders due to steep climbs and tight hairpins.
Can I bring my own motorcycle?
Do you allow pillion passengers?
What should I wear?
You’ll need suitable motorcycle gear, including helmet, gloves, jacket, trousers, and boots. Riding gear can be hired for an additional charge if required.
What type of roads will we be riding on?
Expect a mix of open A-roads, scenic B-roads, rural lanes, and (on certain tours) steep mountain passes with tight bends and gradients.
How long is each tour?
Tours last around 7 hours, covering roughly 120 miles, with scenic stops, photo opportunities, and time to grab food.
Is fuel included?
Fuel is not included. Riders are responsible for refuelling their bike during the day.
What happens in bad weather?
Our tours run in most weather conditions. If we must cancel due to extreme weather, you’ll be offered a full refund or an alternative date.
Booking & Payment
Do you offer private or group bookings?
Yes. If you’d like a private group ride or a custom tour, contact us and we’ll be happy to arrange it.
Can I book multiple tours?
Yes. Many riders choose to book multiple routes across different days, especially if they want to experience both the scenic loops and the mountain passes.
Do I need to pay a deposit?
A deposit may be required depending on the tour. Full payment is due before the tour begins.
What payment methods do you accept?
Credit card, bank transfer, and cash (GBP).
What if I need to cancel?
Cancellations made less than 48 hours before the tour are non-refundable.
Does submitting the booking form guarantee a place?
No. Submitting the form does not guarantee a booking. A member of the LDMT team will contact you to confirm your details, dates, and availability. Your booking is only confirmed once this process is complete and you receive an official confirmation from Lake District Motorcycle Tours.
What are the licence and rider requirements?
You must hold a valid motorcycle licence for the class of motorcycle you wish to hire. This must be a UK licence or an international equivalent recognised in the UK. Riders must have no more than 6 penalty points and no past or pending convictions for drink or drug driving. Please see our Terms & Conditions for full details.
Is insurance included?
Yes. Fully comprehensive insurance is included with all hired motorcycles. Riders using their own bike must ensure their insurance covers them for group ride-outs.
Do you offer gift vouchers?
Yes. Motorcycle tour gift vouchers are available and make an excellent present for riders of all experience levels.
